Princeton Theological Seminary is Hiring a Public Safety Officer Near Princeton, NJ

Position Description
A. Title: Security Officer - Part time

B. Status: Non-exempt

The Seminary's Security Office is looking to fill a part time position.

C. Purpose: Perform a variety of security/loss prevention services to enhance the safe environment of the Seminary by utilizing proactive patrol methods. Support all Seminary events, Security and Facilities initiatives, and enforce Seminary policies and regulations as well as state and local laws on campus.

D. Supervision: Reports to the Security Supervisor and Director of Security

E. Responsibilities:

1. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all operational policies and procedures, the Seminary handbook, parking policies, housing policies, and any other protocols, rules or regulations they are charged to enforce.

2. Maintain the highest level of professionalism by setting the example for others to follow by always being compliant with the above policies and procedures and obeying all Seminary employee safety standards.

3. Patrol the campus on foot, by golf cart, vehicle, or other alternative patrol method protecting persons and property while promoting positive community relations and supporting all safety and crime prevention initiatives on campus.

4. Open and close buildings and classrooms, turning lights on and off as necessary in accordance with class and event schedules.

5. Detect all life safety issues such as outage of lights, malfunctioning doors and hardware, trip and fall hazards, and report them through the appropriate systems.

6. Provide daily parking enforcement and traffic/crowd control for various functions on campus.

7. Respond to emergencies and complaints of criminal activity and promptly prepare written reports indicating the results of the investigation.

8. Prepare appropriate, complete, and accurate paperwork and reports as required.

9. Provide service functions related to general security issues and assist with minor trouble shooting off hours maintenance requests as directed.

10. Actively participate in meetings and training sessions which may occur outside of normally scheduled shifts.

11. Appear in judicial proceedings both on and off campus as necessary.

12. Remain alert, aware, and observant at all times to include extended work hours and overtime as needed.

13. Be able to respond to campus outside of normally scheduled hours for emergency situations as deemed necessary by the Emergency Response and Recovery Team (ERRT).

Security Staff are designated as essential personnel and as such are expected to make every effort to report for work during emergencies, inclement weather or adverse conditions to support the seminary mission.

14. Preform security dispatch duties as assigned

F. Qualifications:

1. 3-5 years' security experience, preferably in an academic or similar environment.

2. One year of college preferred.

3. Pass and maintain a clear New Jersey State Police background check. Must immediately inform the Director of Security of any change in status.

4. Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Must immediately inform the Director of Security of any change in status.

5. Ability to patrol on foot or remain standing for long periods of time in all weather conditions.

6. Ability to kneel/crouch to deploy or remove vehicle immobilization device (Boot).

7. Ability to carry fire extinguisher up 4 flights of stairs.

8. Ability to pursue and detain/identify criminal offenders, and restrain disorderly persons.
